Yanbu city is one of the Asian cities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, administratively part of Medina. Its area is approximately 18.058 km². The name Yanbu is derived from the abundance of springs, as historians have indicated that it contains about 370 water springs. It is also known by various other names such as the Capital of Tranquility, the Pearl of the Red Sea, the Diving Capital, and the Future Yanbu.
Yanbu is located astronomically at a longitude of 38.1271935 degrees east of the Greenwich line and at a latitude of 24.0447478 degrees north of the Equator. Geographically, it is situated in Medina within the Tihama region on the Red Sea coast, approximately 300 kilometers south of the city of Al-Wajh, about 200 kilometers west of Medina, and around 300 kilometers north of Jeddah. The climate in Yanbu is extremely hot during the summer with the influence of sandstorms but is moderate and tends to be cold in the winter with heavy rains and frequent thunderstorms.
In terms of administrative division, the city is divided into three administrative cities: Yanbu Al-Sina'iyah (Yanbu Industrial City), which was established in 1975, also known as the Royal Commission. It is one of the major cities built to accommodate 200,000 residents. It features a plastic factory, petrochemical industries, King Fahd Industrial Port, three oil refineries, Sunset Beach, an international resort, and a sophisticated artificial lake.
Yanbu Al-Nakhl was established over 2,000 years ago, making it one of the ancient cities. It includes many old villages on its sides, including Madsous Villages, Al-Dhanna Villages, Al-Ayoun, and Al-Mubarak Villages. Yanbu Al-Bahr, on the other hand, is the top tourist city in Saudi Arabia, known for its numerous coral and diving areas. It attracts a large number of individuals from the Levant, Yemen, Egypt, and Sudan. The city's residents are notable for playing the simsimiyya, Arab takht instruments, and the agile. Prominent online newspapers include Yanbu Today and Yanbu News, and the city is home to Al-Majd Club and Radwa Club.
