Al-Jawf is one of the cities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, located in the northwest of Saudi Arabia on its border with the Kingdom of Jordan. It is one of the oldest Saudi cities, where relics dating back to the Stone Age and the Copper Age were found. In this city, a kingdom was established called (the Kingdom of Qedar).
It is bordered to the north and east by the Northern Borders, to the south by Tabuk, and to the northwest by Jordan.
The name Al-Jawf means "the low land compared to its surroundings" in Arabic, which is a characteristic of the Al-Jawf area due to its low terrain.
It is worth mentioning that many regions bear the name Al-Jawf, such as Jawf Bani Hajr in the east of the Kingdom and Jawf Al-Muammar in the Asir region.
Al-Jawf spans an area of 139,000 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 361,000 people. Its administrative capital is the city of Sakaka.
Al-Jawf is famous for olive cultivation, producing around 67% of the Kingdom's total olive production. It also grows various crops such as wheat, barley, fruits, vegetables, and dates, with an annual date production of about 150,000 tons.
Al-Jawf is home to many archaeological and historical landmarks dating back to the Stone Age, the Copper Age, the Kingdom of Qedar, the Nabataeans, the Roman Empire, the Islamic era, the Umayyad and Abbasid periods, the Ottoman Empire, the Al-Shaalan family, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Notable landmarks include: the Al-Jawf Museum in Duma al-Jandal, the Al-Nwaisr Heritage Museum, which houses agricultural tools and old clothes, the Al-Wadhiman Museum that exhibits war tools and crafts, the Tree Heritage Museum, Nawaf Al-Rashid Museum, and other museums.
Additionally, the region boasts several other landmarks such as: the Rajajil Columns, the Za'bal Castle, the Sisra Well, inscriptions and the Hazrat Cave grave, Moisan Castle, the Al-Aishan Palace, the Shuwahtiyah settlements, manufacturing areas in the Sakaka Basin, the Qadeer building and inscriptions, the Niysah mountain inscriptions, the Al-Dreih district, the Mard Castle, Al-Saeedi Castle, the stone circles in Wadi Sarhan, Duma al-Jandal market, the Duma al-Jandal Wall, and the Omar bin Al-Khattab Mosque, alongside some graves such as: the Harra al-Rashrashiyah graves, Nuaij inscriptions and graves, and the drawings and graves of As-Sanimiyat.
Additionally, there are several historic palaces such as Aqilat Al-Mashaan Palace, Ibn Shaalan Palace, Al-Mathin Palace, Al-Kharab Palace, Al-Wisiyah Palace, and the Raslaniah Palace.
Several sports clubs have been established in Al-Jawf, the most notable being: Al-Qurayyat Club, Al-Jandal Club, Al-Intela'a Club, Al-Qala'a Club, and Al-Orouba Club.
