Afif is one of the provinces of Saudi Arabia located in the western part of Riyadh. Regarding the name of the city, it was previously called "Alia of Najd" because of its location in the upper part of Najd, while the current name is attributed to the Afif Al-Oud well that is located there.
Also, in the modern history of Saudi Arabia, this province was distinguished by an important event in 1945 when King Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud took the first aerial flight by plane, where he flew from Afif to Al-Hawiya in Taif. This made the city the Saudi city where the Saudi fleet was established.

Afif is also located in the middle of the Najd plateau, but the city is astronomically located at latitude 23.54 degrees north and longitude 42.55 degrees east. It is about 500 kilometers away from Riyadh and about 500 kilometers from Mecca. The city is bordered to the south by Mecca, to the north by Qassim, and to the east by Al-Quway’iyah and Al-Dawadmi, while it is bordered to the west by Medina.
It is worth mentioning that one of the reasons for Afif's importance is its presence on the Bosra pilgrimage route, which was an important trade route before Islam, passing 40 kilometers north of the city. Another reason is its location on the Yamama Stone route, connecting Mecca and Bahrain, passing 30 kilometers west of Afif.
The area of Afif city is 15,000 square kilometers, while the administrative area of the province is 25,000 square kilometers. As for the population of Afif, it is approximately 100,000 people, in addition to the residents of the villages included in the services, about 60,000 people, making the final number 160,000 people, but this number is certainly subject to increase.
