The city of Unayzah is one of the oldest cities in Saudi Arabia, so it can be considered a historical city. Its unique geographical location has given Unayzah strategic importance since ancient times. Unayzah is specifically located in the Qassim region, which is famous for its fertile farms, green orchards, mild weather, abundant water, and rich soil. To the south of Unayzah lies the course of Wadi Al-Rumah, and to the north, the Najd plateau.
The reason for naming the city of Unayzah with this name goes back to a black mountain, as black mountains or hills were called "Al-Anz". Since the hill in this city was small, the name was dimunitive from Anz to Unayzah. The city was an important water source in ancient times for everyone who passed through the Arabian Peninsula desert. Human settlement in the city then began until it became a well-known province densely populated and an important cultural center, after being merely a water source in the middle of the desert.
In the year 630 A.H., Zahri bin Jarrah moved and settled with his sons, building their homes in Unayzah and establishing residences. The first village founded in Unayzah was Al-Malaihah, and the last one was Al-Aqiliyah. The Damascene traveler Al-Jaziri visited Unayzah during his pilgrimage journey and took his rest there. He mentioned that it was a village with neighborhoods not surrounded by a wall and without a prince. As for Unayzah's climate, it is spring-like all the time, although sometimes variable. In winter, nights are cold, but in the morning, the sun shines brightly.
One of the most important tourist attractions distinguishing Unayzah is the Unayzah Heritage Palace, whose construction took several stages over three years. Many skills and activities are offered to teach adults and children a variety of old traditional crafts, such as carpentry, painting, beadworking, and many other handicrafts. This palace represents the architectural developments that Qassim region has witnessed. Additionally, there is the Hamdan Heritage House, which showcases old architectural culture as it is a house built from mud. It has since been transformed into a tourist site where many old traditional artifacts are displayed for visitors to learn about.
