The city of Mansoura is located in the north of the Arab Republic of Egypt, east of the Delta, and it overlooks the eastern bank of the Damietta branch, opposite the city of Talkha, which is located on the western bank of Damietta. It is 120 km away from Cairo.
The city of Mansoura was named the Island of Roses because it has a large number of gardens and roses, and water surrounds it from three sides. Its name was changed to Mansoura in honor of the Egyptians' victory over the Crusaders in the Battle of Mansoura. It was built by King Al-Kamil Ibn Al-Adil in the year 616 Hijri, 1219 AD.
Mansoura also includes many archaeological and historical sites, such as Dar Ibn Luqman, where the Egyptians imprisoned Louis IX. The house includes a historical museum that contains many pictures and paintings that indicate the efforts of the Egyptians in confronting the Crusades on Egypt.

It is the oldest mosque built by Al-Saleh Ayyub in the year 616 Hijri in the city of Mansoura. It is considered an irreplaceable historical masterpiece and is located on King Al-Saleh Street.
Additionally, there is the Al-Najjar Mosque, which was built in the year 566 Hijri. It is one of the oldest mosques and features a leaning minaret similar to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. There's also the Sheikh Idris Al-Hanawi Mosque, which was built in the year 577 Hijri, and many other historical mosques.
The city of Mansoura is also characterized by many important cultural sites, the most famous of which are: the Palace of Culture Hall, Dar Luqman Museum Hall, the Modern Center for Culture and Development, which is considered one of the most important publishing houses in the area, the Books and Beans Library, which is an integrated cultural center, and the Misr Public Library adjacent to the Dakahlia Governorate. It is noteworthy that it is the third library built in the regional library system after the New Valley Library and the Port Said Library.
Mansoura city has many recreational places, such as the Zoo in the Toreil neighborhood, the Nile Corniche, and the city also houses many clubs, including: Al-Hewar Club, the Island of Roses Club located on the lower walkway street, the Social Club in Mansoura Stadium located on Abdul Salam Aref Street, in addition to the Faculty Members Club of Mansoura University.
The area of Mansoura is 371 square kilometers, and its population is approximately 748,028 according to 2023 statistics. Among the most famous figures from Mansoura are Farouk El-Baz, Umm Kulthum, and Al-Naqshbandi.
