The city of Aswan is the capital of Aswan Governorate in Egypt. It is distinguished as one of the most important cities in southern Egypt, located on the eastern bank of the Nile River. Approximately 267,913 residents live within it. It has been registered with UNESCO as part of a group of creative cities in the field of arts and crafts.
Aswan was called "Sono" in the era of the ancient Egyptians, then it changed to "Sin" in the Ptolemaic era, and then to "Yeba Sawan" by the Nubians. It was known in the past as the land of gold.

In 2012, a decision was issued to establish Aswan University as an independent public university. In 2005, a branch of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport was established, and Al-Azhar University was established in 1989, which includes religious studies education.
